Under 12 Report - 9 May 2009

DAYBORO U12's vs DAYBORO U11's
Saturday the 9th, and both the 11's and 12's had a bye so t'was a good opportunity to have a scratch match at the Lair, Home of the Dingoes. How good did it look driving over the hill at 8.30 and looking down on Colin Thiele Park, with the pitch shimmering in the morning sun. Coach Whitaker had the kids pumped and they were ready for a match. The under 11s were down a few of their regular players so had enlisted some very capable replacements to make up numbers. From the kickoff we had the foot on the pedal with the front three Olivia, Alex and Olly pushing the ball up and hovering around the oppositions goal. It was Jed who finally opened the account in the 3rd minute from a screamer 15 metres out. Not to be outdone, Big Ol smashed one in 2 minutes later, followed by another within 3 minutes off Olivia's boot. The writing was on the wall, the team were hungry for goals and goalie Max of the 11s had his work cut out for him. Kade, Ed the Iceman, Brad and India in the middle were thwarthing any opposition raids that came their way, then feeding the attack again with good ball to allow Alex to boot in a couple in the 14th and 19th minutes. A few good raids by the opposition kept Matt, Speirsy and Jake on their toes with Franz the Dependable making some great saves. Jayden and Travis landed a goal each in the final minutes of the first half after some great team play.
The second half saw the 11s play good defensive footy to keep us out for the first ten minutes until Big Ol found the back of the net. Franz and Jed also goaled soon after. A beaut length of the field run by Kade followed by a well directed center kick to Alex saw him get his third . I think it was at this stage I saw Brad on the sideline signing autographs. Somewhere in there Alex did a beaut bicycle manouvre. Jayden closed the scoring in the final minute to get his second.
Two things that stood out with the team today were that
1. They were happy to move the ball back to find a way forward.
2. They played like a team, always looking for the pass.
Well done to the U11's. You were up against a hot team but you guys didn't stop trying till the final whistle .
Jayden Hanna was this weeks Team Player, always steady in the middle and two goals to boot.
